Hiking in Walton County
A friend of mine and I went on a nature walk to Cassine Gardens in Seagrove Beach on Saturday. It was a beautiful day to spend exploring some of God's other local beauty. Just steps off 30-A, hidden behind the Cassine Garden Townhomes, are easy walking trails through native vegetation and beside several distinctive water features. We enjoyed ponds with floating lilly pads and purple irises growing along the banks. We encountered a boardwalk over a marsh with Cyprus trees and knees. At the end of our trail we were at the edge of Western Lake. Along the way, we spotted a green heron and a woodpecker. Also along the trail, there are exercise stations where your endurance, strength and flexibility can be tested. The trail is easy enough for all ages and terrific for anyone wanting a break from the beach and for some the opportunity to commune with nature.
